Tingling feeling and cramps in the legs during pregnancy?

Jeg har dealet med, at mine ben har snurret ubehageligt sporadisk i min graviditet. I første trimester kom og gik det mere ofte. I de to sidste trimestre oplever jeg det knap så ofte. Det melder næsten altid sin ankomst om morgenen eller i løbet af dagen. Det starter som en snurren i baglårene, som bevæger sig længere ned i benene. Den fysiologiske forklaring ligger sikkert langt fra den følelse jeg har, men jeg kan bedst beskrive det som en følelse af, at blodet ikke kan gennemstrømme årene, som det plejer. Musklerne virker mere trætte og jeg får lyst til at stampe i jorden, for at få gang i benene eller alternativt lægge mig ned og massere benene.

Det kommer temmelig ubelejligt til tider, der står man så med kæmpe snurren i benene, som selvfølgelig er til at leve med, men bestemt en ubehagelig følelse. Jeg kan også vågne med krampe i benene – specielt i mine lægge, hvor det bedste for mig er at lave venepumpeøvelser eller flekse foden med benet lige op i luften, så underbenet strækkes godt. Det skal siges, at jeg ikke har dealet med nogle af disse ting før min graviditet, så det har været en af de små dejlige sidegaver, der kommer med den lille mave.

Efter sigende skulle det være helt normalt under en graviditet, hvilket jeg synes er betryggende at vide. Jeg har fundet frem til, at det også kan betegnes som ’restless legs syndrom’ (RLS). I særligt slemme tilfælde forhindrer det gravide i at sove, det har jeg ikke oplevet. Jeg er vågnet op med slem krampe i benene, men det er altid til at strække væk. Hvis man oplever det meget slemt, kan det være en god ide at tale med din læge eller jordmoder, som kan undersøge, om problemet også kan skyldes jernmangel.

During my pregnancy I have sporadically dealt with a spinning feeling in the legs. In the first trimester it came quite often. In the last two trimesters less often. It almost always arrive in the morning or during the day. It starts as a unpleassant tingling feeling in the thighs, moving further down in the legs. The physiological explanation is probably far from the feeling I have, but I can best describe it as a feeling of the blood not being able to flow through the veins as usual. My muscles appear more tired and I get an urge to tamp in the soil or alternatively lay down to massage the legs.

It seems pretty inconvenient at times, suddenly the spinning feeling begin without any notice. Obviously I can live with this feeling but for sure it is an uncomfortable and unknown feeling. I have also experienced to wake up with bad cramps in my legs where the only thing that works is to bend and stretch the foot and keep the leg straight up in the air so the lower leg is stretched well. It have to say, that I have not dealt with any of these things before my pregnancy, so this is all a small extra bonus that comes along for free with the little belly.

Reportedly it is completely normal to feel spinning and cramps in the legs during pregnancy. I thought that was nice to find out. It is also know as “Restless legs syndrome” (RLS). In particularly bad cases, it can prevent you from sleeping, but I have fortunately not experienced this. I have woken up with bad cramps, but I can always help this to go away by stretching. If you experience having spinning legs very often or really bad cramps, it might be a good idea to talk with your doctor or midwife, who can determine whether the problem also may be due to lack of iron.
